The Village Cup located in Jericho, VT is the perfect vision of a Vermont breakfast place. The restaurant is a bit confusing; as you walk in you are greeter by a hostess (usually) and you can either be seated at one of the tables, or order from their extensive beverage list and get a pastry to go. My company and I opted to sit down at a table and try the menu. We were seated at a very small table near the small fireplace but the gorgeous picturesque window overlooking the backyard and the mountains.
As stated, the tables are small and very close together - something that we morning people are not very happy with before our first cup of coffee in the morning. The multiple times I have been here, the service has not been very good and this morning was no exception. Our waitress was a young girl who never told us the specials and barely paid attention as we ordered our beverages. A few minutes later she came back and told companion #1 that his beverage order could not be made because some piece of equipment was broken; he ordered something else.
Our waitress then came back with only two of the four drinks and with no explanation left the table. More than a few minutes later she returned to take our food order (yes, while us remaining companions were still waiting for our coffees). Companion #2 ordered something off the menu and was told that "oops she forgot to say that they were out of one of the ingredients". She placed an order for another item "oh we are out of XXX too". Well, as you can imagine we were not off to a good start. Finally, all four of us ordered our items and waited patiently for our waitress to come back with our coffees and to not tell us that something else could not be made.
Our food arrived actually pretty quickly. The Vermonter omelet is a must try with a tangy sausage, Cabot (of course) cheddar, and apples all wrapped up in a fluffy egg blanket - perfect combination!
The ginger chai shake was off the charts as are the fruit smoothies, and the hash is homemade (delicious), but the portions are still small, the home fries are barely cooked all times that I have been here, the prices are high for basic breakfast items, the service awful, and the set up way too tight.
I give this place 3 hearts - the food is delicious but the atmosphere and service are just missing.
